World-Changing Industrial Biotechnology Solutions
Sustainable Solutions for a Growing Global Population
In 2011, DuPont acquired industrial biotechnology leader Danisco A/S, including its Genencor division. Genencor and the DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol joint venture are now fully integrated within the DuPont Industrial Biosciences business unit. The acquisition advances DuPont's efforts to provide sustainable solutions to a growing global population, particularly in the areas of food, bioenergy, and biomaterials.
Innovation Powered by DuPont™ Genencor® Science
DuPont is applying this industrial biotechnology expertise in three focus areas: bioactives, biorefineries, and biomaterials. Prior to its integration into DuPont, Genencor brought decades of innovation to the development of bioactives such as enzymes, peptides and performance proteins to improve the sustainability profiles of our customers. We’re working to improve biorefinery processes and technologies to unlock the full potential of the biorefinery and all its value streams. And, in the biomaterial space, we’ve created a remarkable new bio-based polymer that delivers on both sustainability and performance.
Case in Point — DuPont™ Sorona®
DuPont™ Renewably Sourced™ Sorona® features performance characteristics that rival or exceed those of traditional petrochemical-derived fibers. Yet Sorona® contains 37% renewably-sourced, plant-based content by weight. Sorona® also consumes less energy and emits fewer greenhouse gases during manufacture than an equivalent amount of nylon 6 or nylon 6,6. A truly next-generation bio-based polymer powered by DuPont™ Genencor® Science, Sorona® represents the promise of sustainable industrial biotechnology fulfilled by a product that is economically viable and highly competitive in terms of performance.
Sorona® contains up to 37% annually renewable plant based ingredients by weight (28% biobased carbon). The DuPont™ Genencor® Leaf Globe is a registered trademark of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company or its affiliates.
