Kevlar® Dare Bigger™ Moments: Toyota Brazil

Kevlar® Dare Bigger™ Moments

Toyota Brazil is a benchmark in the automobile market, manufacturing more than 15,000 vehicles a month, relying on more than 5,000 employees. The quality of Toyota products and the safety of its employees are paramount, e.g. with the careful choice of its Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) during production process.

Toyota Brazil’s goal is to ensure zero accident; however, in some production processes of the automobile industry, there are operations subject to cut and abrasion risks, which produce imminent hazards to collaborators.

Due to these inherent risks, it was necessary to improve the level of protection and one of the first steps taken was to determine that not only employees’ hands were exposed to hazards but also their wrists and arms.

Based on such finding, the company implemented specific procedures in order to provide innovative solutions to its collaborators. As a result, they adopted the use of gloves made with DuPont™ Kevlar®, which have already been worn in Japan and other production facilities of Toyota for several years.

So that safety could be established as a culture, several simulations were conducted so collaborators themselves could see the causes and effects of their daily tasks and the importance of the correct use of Personal Protection Equipment, in addition to simulations involving the major risks they were subject to in their operations and the right procedures they must implement for each situation.

After the implementation of gloves with Kevlar®, protection for wrists and arms was developed by introducing wrist protectors and protection sleeves also made of DuPont™ Kevlar®,  helped minimize risks to the region of upper limbs.

"DuPont™ Kevlar® has helped us Dare Bigger because, just like Toyota, DuPont™ Kevlar® also offers quality, aligned with comfort and safety, always intended for collaborators’ well-being. Additionally, Toyota applies continuous improvements and the use of DuPont™ Kevlar® product has been fundamental to produce with greater protection, safety and quality”. Says Ricardo Henrique Kato – Safety Engineer
